In a somber announcement, Colts owner Jim Irsay shared the heartbreaking news of the untimely demise of former Indianapolis Colts star and Super Bowl champion, Matt Ulrich, at the age of 41.

Irsay expressed his sorrow on Twitter, stating, “I am heartbroken to hear of the passing of Matt Ulrich. In just two seasons, Matt made a lasting impact on everyone he crossed paths with Great guy, I hear he was a great dad — and he was a Super Bowl champ. My prayers to his family.”

A cause of death has not been disclosed, adding a layer of mystery to the tragic news.

Ulrich, originally from Illinois, served as the captain of Northwestern University’s football team in 2004 before joining the Colts as an undrafted free agent in the following year. The offensive guard played a pivotal role in the 2006 team, led by quarterback Peyton Manning, that secured victory against the Chicago Bears in the 2007 Super Bowl.

His professional journey included executive education certifications from Stanford and Harvard Business School, as well as participation in a Harvard football players health study.

According to his company bio, Ulrich found immense joy in his four children and coaching endeavors, describing them as the “joys of his life.” His passion for helping young athletes reach their full potential through coaching and training reflected his commitment to teamwork, grit, and leadership.

In a poignant reflection on his successful football career, Ulrich emphasized, “The importance of teamwork, grit, and leadership.” Even beyond the gridiron, his dedication to personal growth and achievement shone through as he recently bench-pressed an impressive 505 pounds at the age of 40.
